All
that I am is chemicals
My consciousness is a reaction
What I feel is due to a process
of elemental interactions of electrons
and chemicals and receptors and time
but beyond that is hope, is faith
trust, questions, a constant change
development, enrichment, confusion and
chaos to those who fight it
I am a warrior of that battle
a foot soldier in the trenches in the rain
Proud to be of service in a tragic meaningless war
That which I am is composed of the stuff
That always was here and
Will be after I am
I can not believe I am just matter
Even though each and every atom that was me
is now someone somewhere else
I am still me
I am the stardust and earth and
all the animals and all the people
but there is a border of my essence
and of yours
At a time and place our essences
may touch but always remain distinct separate
This boundary is indefinable and
yet obvious to the naked eye
The quintessence of self seems a mystery
That will someday seem utterly obvious
My being moves through chronos
Unaffected by material circumstances
but consumed wholly by them
something beyond cells contains the essences
of attributes such as justice,
service, truthfulness, joy and misery
It is this that directs my chemical factories
that generates fear, stress, laughter, and tears
It is very hard to separate the attribute from its product
This does not diminish the need to know
The burning desire to define
The mechanism of control
The avenue of action
I ask questions of my fellow companions in this journey
and it is said that no one is compelled enough to study this phenomena
for fear of chastisement and isolation
The few who have, suffer ridicule and financial suffocation
So this is why I call myself a poet rather than a scientist
Who am I?
What makes me separate from
the stuff that surrounds me?
How does what I call free will influence matter?
How do the presence of attributes
or their absence affect the chemical balances in my body?
The spirit that which contains the attributes
has senses or extensions
through which status is determined
Some of them being
memory, imagination, thought, comprehension
and the common facility, which communicates
between the realities of man
I urge the study of this facility even though
I know that it is not time
for us to fully understand it
I feel it is time to begin our analysis
Enzymes and compounds that result in emotions
